Kybella's active ingredient is synthetic deoxycholic acid — a naturally occurring molecule that your body already uses to break down and absorb dietary fat. Your Kybella treatment begins with a thorough consultation to assess the degree of submental fat and determine the appropriate number of injections and sessions needed. The treatment area is marked, and a topical numbing solution is applied for comfort.
Kybella is administered as a series of small injections directly into the submental fat beneath the chin. Each treatment session typically involves up to 50 small injections and takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes in-office. There is no general anesthesia required.
