Rejuvenate your complexion and restore your youthful radiance with a professionally administered chemical peel — customized to your skin's unique needs.
If you're bothered by fine facial lines, sun or age spots, acne scars, or uneven skin tone, talk to Dr. Robinson about having a chemical peel — one of the least invasive treatments available to rejuvenate your complexion and restore your youthful radiance. A chemical peel will revitalize the appearance of your skin and provide dramatic, long-lasting results.
Facial chemical peels are performed at Robinson Facial Plastic Surgery offices using topical solutions that exfoliate the outer layers of dead cells to effectively erase visible imperfections and improve your skin's clarity, texture and tone. "Peeling" away these top layers not only reveals smoother, softer skin — it stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, which helps to tighten and tone your face.
Before your chemical peel, Dr. Robinson will examine your skin and, depending on its condition, recommend a solution or combination of solutions, which vary in strength for superficial, medium or deep penetration. The process can take as few as 15 minutes, but more involved procedures may last closer to an hour.
Dr. Robinson and staff welcome patients from Aliso Viejo, Irvine, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Lake Forest, Mission Viejo and all nearby locations throughout Orange County.
Chemical peels involve minimal downtime, though the healing period increases slightly with deeper peels. It's common to experience some mild tenderness, flaking or irritation in the days following your chemical peel, which are easily treated with over-the-counter products. After your treatment, your face will be more susceptible to sun damage, so you'll be advised to protect your newly emerging skin.
We'll custom blend a treatment to give you a healthy, youthful glow and reveal your smooth, blemish-free skin within. Our team will work with you to select the right peel depth and solution combination to address your specific skin concerns and deliver the best possible outcome.
Chemical peels stimulate the production of collagen and elastin — helping to tighten, tone, and rejuvenate your skin from within. Combine with IPL Photofacial or PRP Dermal Needling for enhanced skin renewal results.
TCA (trichloracetic acid) is a nontoxic chemical that has been used for skin peels for the last 20 years. Related to vinegar (acetic acid), TCA applied to the skin causes the top cell layers to dry up and peel off over the course of about one week — exposing a new layer of undamaged skin with a smoother texture and even coloration.
Some physicians prefer TCA peels for treating sun damage or melasma, often combined with prescription creams. TCA peels are safe when performed by an experienced practitioner.
Usually done in a series of two or three for best results — similar to other light peels using hydroxy acids such as glycolic, salicylic, or a mixture of hydroxy acids.
Usually performed once or twice a year. Does require some downtime — typically about one week — when the peeling is visible and the skin is actively renewing itself.
TCA peels work by removing a layer of sun-damaged skin. As we progress from medium to deep peels, each layer of skin removed is greater as we increase the strength of the TCA peel solution. A solution that is too strong increases the risk of complications like uneven pigmentation and scarring. TCA peels are therefore performed at different skin depths — from shallow to deep — based on careful assessment of your skin.
As we increase the TCA peel strength, each successive layer of skin removed is deeper, treating progressively more significant concerns. Our experienced practitioners select the appropriate strength to deliver your desired results safely and effectively.
TCA peels are versatile — we can treat your face, neck, chest, arms, back and legs. TCA peels are often more economical because we can treat larger areas at less cost than using a laser. It's important to realize that non-facial areas do not heal as well as facial areas, and the results are less predictable. Expert practitioners never peel more than a small percentage of the body at one time to avoid potential toxicity.
A TCA peel can resurface and tighten your skin while stimulating collagen growth. Keep in mind that risks may also be greater unless the physician is very experienced with TCA peels on the human body.
